Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for towing of recreational vehicle.
   • Calculate the gross weight of the recreational vehicle and determine the aggregate mass.
   • Check and confirm the towing capacity of the towing vehicle and adhere to tow-bar capacity.
   • Attach the recreational vehicle to towing vehicle in accordance with manufacturer's and state or territory specifications, requirements and regulations.
   • Conduct pre-operational checks on towing vehicle and recreational vehicle, taking account of all safety considerations.
2. Site and move recreational vehicle.
   • Safely manoeuvre recreational vehicle to required location.
   • Identify obstacles or hazards and remove or avoid as appropriate, ensuring effective communication with others.
   • Position recreational vehicle ensuring it is level and parallel and within reach of all required equipment by using stabilising fixtures.
   • Move recreational vehicle from a site, disconnecting power heads, water pipes and electrical leads, ensuring stabilising fixtures are in position prior to commencing the tow.

Context of and specific resources for assessment	Assessment must ensure access to a range of different recreational vehicles and off road locations to tow and site recreational vehicles
Methods of assessment	A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge The following examples are appropriate for this unit direct observation of the candidate preparing and towing a recreational vehicle and manoeuvring it into a space oral and written questions to test knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of the candidates onthejob performance
	Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector workplace and job role is recommended
Guidance information for assessment	Employability skills embedded in this unit should be assessed holistically in the context of the job role and with other relevant units that make up the skill set or qualification

The towing vehicle may be:	two wheel drive four wheel drive truck van specialised towing truck or unit tractor.
Pre-operational checks on towing vehicle and recreational vehicle may include:	visual checking of vehicle checking and topping up of fluid levels checking of tyre pressures checking of operation of vehicle lights and indicators checking of brakes.
Obstacles or hazards may include:	steep inclines or sharp curves uneven surfaces oil, rocks, mud and water on road animals and objects on road pedestrians and children trees and branches other vehicles, recreational vehicles and tents.
